Initiating Change at the Grassroots Level

Laying the groundwork for sustainable community growth that uplifts entire generations.

Our Community Development programme begins where it matters most — on the ground, in the heart of Jamaican communities. We traverse from one community to the next, working hand in hand with local groups, organisations, and leaders to foster sustainable social value. Together, we don't just deliver change — we help communities build it themselves, ensuring that the people closest to the issues are equipped and empowered to lead the solutions.

To date, the Digicel Foundation has distributed 984 grants, directly impacting lives across every corner of Jamaica. This portfolio is anchored by two flagship programmes: the Build Jamaica Grants and the Mek A Muckle Grants — both designed to empower grassroots organisations that are closest to the issues and most trusted within their communities. By equipping them with the resources needed to implement projects that drive meaningful and lasting change, we ensure that communities are not just recipients of aid, but active participants in shaping their own futures.

Through these initiatives, we have supported projects spanning youth development, skills training, agriculture, and social enterprise. Many have given rise to community farms, training hubs, and small social enterprises that provide goods and services while opening new economic pathways for Jamaicans who need them most.

Community development is at the heart of our mission because it builds resilience, fosters independence, and creates environments where people can succeed — together. By investing in grassroots solutions and trusting local community groups to lead the way, we help break cycles of poverty and address local challenges with locally driven answers.
