Standing Against Lonleliness for World Down Syndrome Day
Inclusion

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – 23 March 2026 – The Digicel Foundation marked World Down Syndrome Day with a series of staff initiatives built around the global theme “Stand Against Loneliness.”
As part of the awareness activities at Digicel’s Port of Spain headquarters, staff were each handed one sock and challenged to find the colleague wearing its match — sparking smiles, conversations, and connections across the office as staff tracked down their “missing match” and posed for a photo together. They were also treated to a breakfast of ‘triples’ – doubles with a playful nod to trisomy 21, the extra chromosome at the heart of Down Syndrome.
The week culminated with the Digicel Foundation’s support of the Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago (SOTT) National Cricket Games at the Constantine Grounds on 21st March, which Digicel staff attended wearing their colourful socks in solidarity.
Digicel Foundation Project Manager Diana Mathura Hobson shared that “this year’s Down Syndrome Awareness Day theme of loneliness really made us reflect. It’s such a human feeling – everyone feels this way – yet it's so easily ignored. We were created to need each other, and so our engagement is meant to send that message home – how important it is to form real connections with each other.”
The Digicel Foundation remains committed to funding innovative initiatives that champion inclusion and ensure no one stands alone.
