Fyzabad United Scores Big For Education with new Community Homework Centre
EPIC

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – 11 June 2026 – Football may be at the heart of its identity, but Fyzabad United Football Club is also scoring goals for education in its community. Through grant funding from the Digicel Foundation’s Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities (EPIC) programme, in partnership with Shell Trinidad and Tobago, the club has established a new community homework centre on John Jules Trace, expanding after-school academic support and supervision for children and families in Fyzabad.
For Fyzabad United FC and Principal Shanna Dindial, the opening of Ms Shanna’s El Roi Community Homework Centre represents the fulfilment of a long-held vision to provide a safe and supportive space where children can complete homework, strengthen literacy and numeracy skills, and participate in sports, arts and life skills activities to encourage well-rounded development.
The EPIC funding of $100,000 enabled the transformation of a 20x10 prefabricated container into a solar-powered learning space, complete with a restroom, tables, chairs, shelving, books and a whiteboard to support daily activities and instruction.
During the community launch and thanksgiving ceremony, residents and stakeholders described the initiative as a meaningful investment in the future of Fyzabad’s young people. Siparia West/ Fyzabad Councillor Jason Ali and Mon Desir Councillor Deryck Bowrin were among those in attendance and pledged continued support for the initiative and its long-term impact.
The centre is now open for registration of children ages five and up, with sessions running Monday
The EPIC programme, launched by the Digicel Foundation in 2016, is delivered annually to support community-based organisations working to create meaningful and lasting change. In 2025, the Digicel Foundation and Shell T&T entered into a landmark three-year partnership to jointly fund the EPIC programme, representing a combined investment of TT$3.8 million.
Now in its 10th year, EPIC has funded 170 projects across Trinidad and Tobago, advancing sustainable development and delivering positive social impact in communities nationwide.
