Digicel Foundation & Latter Day Saints invest in East Port of Spain
Vulnerable Communities

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 29, 2024: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – The Keisha T. Edwards City Outreach Centre, a transformative initiative by the NGO Is There Not a Cause (ITNAC), is set to bring vital social support services to East Port of Spain. Funded by The Digicel Foundation in partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, this social outreach centre has been designed to provide essential support to underserved and vulnerable members of the community.
“This Centre will cater to the homeless, the indigent, and any others in need of critical social services,” said Desha Clifford, Chairman of the Digicel Foundation, during a soft launch held at the Centre’s site on Jackson Street, Port of Spain, on Thursday 21 November. “Whether it’s a meal, a shower, clothing, or access to online services, this space will provide the relief and support that so many in this community need and deserve.”
Construction of the Centre is progressing steadily, with the foundation and cement work complete and the installation of three retro-fitted containers, equipped with kitchen and bathroom facilities, expected by year-end.
ITNAC’s founder, Avonelle Hector Joseph, expressed profound gratitude for the collaboration: “We at ITNAC often joke that it would have taken countless fundraisers to achieve the level of support we’ve received. This generosity has inspired us, and we are ready to serve the East Port of Spain community with renewed passion and commitment. Thank you, Digicel Foundation and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, for making this possible!”
The partnership between The Latter-Day Saints and Digicel Foundation will channel over TT$800,000 to projects that support vulnerable women and children across Trinidad and Tobago. Earlier this year, their collaboration upgraded three transitional homes – The New Life Ministries Rehabilitation Centre in Palo Seco, ITNAC’s Bethel House, and Tabitha’s Home for Women and Children in Tobago – with technology centres, ensuring residents have access to digital tools to rebuild their lives
