Digicel Foundation distributes 260 Hampers for Christmas

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 18, 2024: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Last week, 260 families received hampers loaded with household essentials, food and goodies to brighten the Christmas season. Many of the hamper recipients are in areas still recovering from recent floods, where residents are staying focused on preparation as the rainy season continues.

The Digicel Foundation provided 200 hampers to the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government specifically for those affected by floods in Penal and Diego Martin regions. “At the Digicel Foundation, we remain deeply committed to supporting families and communities affected by the ongoing flooding. Many areas are still grappling with the aftermath of severe flooding, with stagnant water creating persistent challenges for residents. As the rains continue, the situation grows more urgent. Together, we must keep relief efforts active to help families recover and rebuild during this critical time,” explained Diana Mathura-Hobson, Digicel Foundation Project Officer. “We encourage more corporate entities to join us in these efforts, as collective action can significantly amplify the reach and impact of relief initiatives, ensuring much-needed assistance reaches those who need it most.”

A further 60 hampers and meals were distributed last week directly to persons in need through the NGO Is There Not a Cause? (ITNAC). In a heartwarming gesture, the hampers were supplemented by 60 meals donated by Lisa Pacheco-Aqui, Administrative Manager at Digicel, as part of her 60th birthday celebrations. “Celebrating my 60th birthday by giving back to those in need has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. It’s a small way to make a difference in the lives of others,” she shared.
