Improving Literacy and Access to Technology
At the Digicel Foundation, we are dedicated to building brighter futures by enhancing literacy and expanding access to technology in schools throughout Jamaica. Through innovative programmes and initiatives, we're empowering educators, students, and communities to embrace the transformative power of education.

Our Education portfolio is guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of ensuring that every child has access to equitable, high-quality education.
The journey began with the reconstruction of Lakes Pen Basic School in St. Catherine, our very first project. In partnership with the community and the Jamaica Social Investment Fund, we transformed this vision into a reality, planting the seeds of hope and opportunity for generations to come.
Since then, we have continued to strengthen Jamaica’s education sector by working hand in hand with communities to enhance institutions at every level, from early childhood centres to universities. In 2009, we launched the Enrichment Programme to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes across the island. Through a joint investment of USD $3.7 million with USAID, we established 231 Enrichment Rooms in primary schools nationwide—creating spaces that nurture young minds and lay the foundation for academic success.
Our commitment to holistic education also includes fostering STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). To date, we have renovated 13 science labs and deployed 42 mobile science units, giving students practical, hands-on experiences that fuel curiosity and innovation.
Today, our focus has expanded to bridging the digital divide. Through the creation of 28 Smart Labs in educational institutions, we are providing access to cutting-edge technology and digital tools, equipping Jamaicans with the skills and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
