Digicel Foundation, Kiwanis North St. Andrew transform Richmond Gap Primary school on Labour Day

Cedar Valley, St. Thomas, May 23, 2026: Richmond Gap Primary & Infant School, nestled in the lush hills of Cedar Valley, St. Thomas, underwent a major transformation this Labour Day. In a collaborative effort to enhance school safety and aesthetics, the Digicel Foundation teamed up with the Kiwanis Club of North St. Andrew for a comprehensive beautification project.

More than 20 volunteers from both organisations rolled up their sleeves to paint, clean, and execute vital infrastructural upgrades—including building a new retaining wall at the rear of the school compound. Even the students joined in, eager to learn painting techniques from Miguel “Steppa” Williams, the Foundation’s Director of Strategic Planning and Community Development.

"We gave the school a complete facelift. They say it takes a village, and today, Richmond Gap is our village," shared Charmaine Daniels, CEO of the Digicel Foundation, while praising the synergy with Kiwanis.

Derrick Brown, Digicel's Group Business Risk Manager and President of the Kiwanis Club of North St. Andrew, echoed her enthusiasm: "This project represents two phenomenal teams uniting for a common purpose—to serve the community."

Expressing deep appreciation, School Principal Shevon Stewart remarked, "We are incredibly thankful to the Digicel Foundation and the Kiwanis Club of North St. Andrew for prioritising our school. The hard work poured into this Labour Day project will benefit us for years to come."

The successful initiative directly impacts 38 students, alongside teachers, parents, and residents who rely on the institution. This project marked the first of two Labour Day initiatives for the Digicel Foundation this year; the second involved renovating and painting the Hurricane Melissa-damaged Bethel Town Post Office in Westmoreland.
