Kingston, Jamaica — December 01, 2025 - Digicel Foundation continues its nationwide hurricane relief efforts with a dedicated focus on supporting Jamaica’s special needs community in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. Recognising the heightened vulnerabilities of special needs students and their families during natural disasters, the Foundation has been actively reaching out to special needs schools and organisations across the island to provide essential assistance.

Over the past few weeks, the Foundation has delivered care packages and hygiene supplies to several institutions, including the Catherine Hall Primary Special Education Unit in St. James, Woodlawn School of Special Education in Manchester, and the Llandilo School of Special Education in Westmoreland.

The Foundation has also supported the Deaf community by handing over more than 100 care packages to Ready to Sign, Deaf Sports Jamaica, and the Jamaica Deaf Youth Advocacy during their donation drive to support members of the Deaf community with much-needed relief items during this challenging period.

Each relief package contains a combination of non-perishable food items, bottled water, bleach, disinfectant, and hygiene products. Thanks to committed partners such as INAMI Management Services, Ding, and the JPS Foundation, the Foundation has been able to broaden its reach and enhance the level of support provided. At the Catherine Hall Primary Special Education Unit, the Foundation also handed over a water tank to help strengthen the school’s access to clean and reliable water.

Charmaine Daniels, CEO of the Digicel Foundation, said, “We stand with our special needs community, especially in moments of crisis. Hurricane Melissa has affected thousands across Jamaica, and we knew it was important to reach our schools, students, and families as quickly as possible. We are grateful to our partners who have stepped up in support, and we remain dedicated to helping our communities rebuild, recover, and return to stability.”

As the Foundation continues its relief distribution, preparations are already underway for the next phase of support. This phase will focus on supporting rebuilding efforts through the handover of hardware vouchers to affected persons, enabling them to begin essential repairs and restoration work.
