Bridging the Digital Divide
Jamaican children, especially those in rural areas and volatile communities, face substantial challenges in accessing quality education due to various socio-economic factors. Inadequate resources and infrastructure in their schools often lead to disengagement, poor academic performance, and increased truancy. In today's digital age, access to ICT and connectivity is essential for improving learning outcomes and promoting equitable educational opportunities. To address this issue, we pledged in 2021 to build Smart Labs in primary schools across Jamaica. This commitment is part of our mission to bridge the digital divide and create new opportunities for the youth. So far, eleven primary schools, from the cool hills of Manchester to the bustling streets of Kingston, have benefited from our Smart Lab initiative. Each lab is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a Mimio Smart Board, 12 laptops, 12 tablets, and a printer. Our Smart Labs are also be powered by Digicel+ lightning-fast internet to facilitate research and knowledge building. The Smart Labs empower students to explore, innovate, and create. They are not just classrooms; they are gateways to the future.
