Digicel Foundation launch its 200th school construction project

Cap-Haïtien, March 6, 2026 – On the eve of its 19th anniversary, the Digicel Foundation is marking a major milestone in its commitment to education with the official launch of its 200th school construction project in Haiti.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Friday, March 6, at the premises of École Nationale Fondation Vincent, in the presence of members of the press, representatives of the school, as well as Digicel and Digicel Foundation officials. This symbolic moment officially signals the start of construction, which will unfold over the coming months.
To identify the beneficiary institution for this 200th project, the Foundation launched a nationwide call for applications, inviting schools across the country to apply. A total of 124 submissions were received. Following an initial review, 23 schools were shortlisted for technical site visits, and 5 projects were ultimately presented to the Project Approval Committee. After this thorough selection process, the Board chose École Nationale Fondation Vincent, run by the Salesians of Don Bosco. The decision reflects both the institution’s compliance with the established criteria and the quality of its work in the Northern department since 1955, where it currently serves approximately 2,500 students across both academic and vocational tracks.
This selection also takes into account the current context in Cap-Haïtien, which has become a major destination for displaced families, increasing the demand for school infrastructure. The new facility will be modern, earthquake- and hurricane-resistant, and will include 18 classrooms, 2 sanitation blocks, and 2 administrative offices—providing a safer and more suitable learning environment for a growing student population.
Beyond infrastructure development, the Digicel Foundation continues to take a holistic approach to strengthening Haiti’s education system. To date, its schools serve more than 60,000 students, alongside the training of over 1,700 teachers and school principals nationwide. Additionally, through the PARCCSEQ program (Project to Strengthen the Capacities of School Communities for Quality Education), the Foundation promotes active community involvement to ensure proper management, maintenance, and long-term sustainability of its investments.
The March 6 ceremony also serves as a prelude to March 7, the official anniversary date of the Digicel Foundation. Over nearly two decades, more than US$90 million has been invested in Haiti in high-impact social projects. With the launch of this 200th school construction project, the Digicel Foundation reaffirms its commitment to building, alongside communities, a stronger and more promising future for Haiti’s children and youth.
