A busy start to the year at the Digicel Foundation

Port-au-Prince, HAITI – January 26, 2022:
For the sixth edition of its annual grant campaign, the Digicel Foundation welcomed the 25 finalist organizations to Port-au-Prince from January 17 to 20. In addition to this major event, notable progress was also made in the Foundation’s school construction and professional development programs.

The traditional meetings in Port-au-Prince marked the final stage of the Konbit Pou Chanjman program, where finalist organizations competed for a US$10,000 grant. Two representatives from each of the 25 organizations participated in a stay that combined training sessions and project presentations before a jury. For this sixth edition, a total of US$150,000 will be awarded to 15 organizations from across Haiti’s ten departments. The award ceremonies are scheduled for March, and the Foundation’s team looks forward to seeing the results of these projects, which will serve as a springboard for community development.

Meanwhile, the school construction program continues to make significant progress, with three sites currently under construction in areas affected by the August 14, 2021 earthquake. As of this report, work on École Paul VI de Vieux-Bourg is 95% complete, École Congréganiste Nationale Saint-Michel de Charpentier stands at 75%, and École Notre-Dame du Perpétuel Secours de Latibolière is 60% complete. These schools are located in the South and Grand’Anse departments.

The Digicel Foundation’s efforts in school construction and professional development share a single goal: ensuring quality education for more than 60,000 students. Through the Community Capacity Building Support Project for Quality Education (PARCCSEQ), 66 of the 67 participating schools have already received funding to establish social enterprises, designed to ensure the sustainability of the Foundation’s investments in local communities. The Foundation is pleased to see the steady recovery and progress of these schools after the challenging period the country has faced.

All in all, it has been a busy start to the year for the Digicel Foundation — from hosting the finalists of the 6th edition of Konbit Pou Chanjman in Port-au-Prince, to advancing the school construction projects, expanding the PARCCSEQ program, and continuing to support the activities of the 2022 Christmas campaign winners.

“For this new year, the Digicel Foundation team remains guided by its mission to create a world where no one is left behind. We remain fully committed and determined to carry out our agenda of initiatives that benefit Haitian communities,”
said Sophia Stransky, Executive Director of the Digicel Foundation.
