THURSDAY MARCH 16, 2022: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Last year, the Digicel Foundation adopted Perseverance Village as part of a pilot project led by the Ministry of Sport and Community Development’s National Policy for Sustainable Community Development Initiative. Last week the Perseverance Village Committee, unveiled its first community project under the partnership, an Internet café, to residents and other stakeholders.
The internet café is housed at the St James de Just Spiritual Baptist Church. Archbishop Ashton Clarke graciously gave the committee permission to use part of the Church for the community initiative. The Internet café has five computers, new furniture, air conditioning and a printer. The internet café is one of three community projects in Perseverance Village to be completed within the partnership tenure. The Digicel Foundation has committed an investment of TT$177,000 in Perseverance to install the internet café, construct a Hydroponics System and upgrade the Hugo Francis grounds.
The Ministry of Sport and Community Development continues to offer technical support and guidance to the Perseverance Village Committee. The Permanent Secretary (Ag) Ministry of Sport and Community Development – Beverly Reid- Samuel, His Worship Mayor of Chaguanas Faaiq Mohammed and Digicel Foundation Board Director Bibi Mohamed Singh were all present to bring greetings and share in the milestone event.
His Worship Mayor of Chaguanas Faaiq Mohammed stated “We live in a world where technology is becoming a need not a want. We needed this investment to facilitate the thirst and hunger for education in our community.” The community will have the support of the Mayor and the Borough Corporation to complete the other two projects.
The internet café will have free high speed broadband internet for 12 months courtesy Digicel Plus.
