TUESDAY JULY 27, 2021: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Congratulations are in order for the winning teams of the Digicel Foundation Girls Power Tech 2021. Of the ten (10) competing teams, three (3) emerged victorious at the end of the Hackathon on Day 2.
The Hackathon, which is a main feature of the GPT event, challenges the young women to brain storm and develop technology- based solutions for social challenges. The topics this year focussed on Renewable Energy and Energy Solutions, Education, Reviving Small Businesses and Gender Based Violence.
Last week, the girls who formed the winning teams paid a courtesy visit to Digicel in C3, San Fernando to receive their well-deserved prizes which ranged from Snapchat Spectacles, to smart face tracking tripods to selfie ring lights. Additionally, three girls also received MVP tokens for demonstrating leadership and positive team spirit during the competition. The first 30 teams to register all received a mini selfie light as tokens courtesy the Digicel Foundation.
Digicel Business General Manager, Laurence Modeste, Digicel Foundation CEO, Penny Gomez and Loop TT Content Manager, Nneka Parsanlal were on hand to interact with the girls and also, to extend congratulations. All Covid 19 protocols were also observed.
Ten teams of fifty (50) young women, between the ages of 13-18 years, participated in Digicel Foundation Girls Power Tech 2021. The two-day virtual event was was hosted virtually via Caesar’s Army Antillea World via Microsoft’s Altspace and Microsoft teams.
GPT 2021 was hosted by Digicel Foundation and sponsored by Digicel Business, Shell Trinidad and Tobago Ltd and, Loop TT.
