LOPINOT COMMUNITY BETTER TOGETHER

THURSDAY APRIL 15, 2021: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – The Lopinot Tourism Association believed in the ability of its community to “work together” when they submitted an application in November 2020 to the Digicel Foundation detailing a project which would make a difference in the lives of the residents within the community of Lopinot. This project which covered upgrades to their community centre, purchase of equipment for the chocolate making and parang instruments was officially launched on Saturday 12th April.

Lopinot Tourism Association was ecstatic to learn on 18th December that they were one of the four organisations selected out of 100 eager applicants to receive a grant of TT$50,000 from the Digicel Foundation to fund their project.  The entire community centre was painted, a new stage was constructed, and toilets were refurbished. The project is also expected to provide sustainable employment for young parranderos and budding chocolatiers and as such, the group purchased parang instruments and equipment needed for chocolate making.

Founder of the Lopinot Tourism Association, Donna Mora said, “We want the world to know about Lopinot”. She gushed that the community is known for Count de Lopinot, the Lopinot historical centre, parang, the Martin Gomez Cave, cocoa estates and their mouth-watering pastelles.  She added, “the residents who live here are passionate and friendly.’ Ms. Mora concluded by expressing gratitude to the Digicel Foundation for the grant which allowed them to execute their project. She said, “We are happy to show Trinidad and Tobago that the residents of Lopinot can work together, and today, Lopinot is indeed “Better Together”.

Digicel Foundation Strategic Partnership Officer, Alicia Hospedales shared that the Foundation recognizes the work being done by the Lopinot Tourism Association. She applauded the group on their efforts to help, empower and transform the lives of the young persons and women in the community. She said, “We see your efforts and your persistence in ensuring that no one gets left behind. This project is at the heart of community transformation. Just like tag line for the campaign says, “You + Me = Community”- This makes us better together.”
