PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES STAR IN VIDEO ON HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

TUESDAY, MAY 21, 2020: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Emergencies and disasters can strike quickly and without warning can force you to evacuate your schools, neighbourhood or even confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services – water, gas, electricity or telephones – were cut off? Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they can’t reach everyone right away.

Through its ‘Preparing You’ programme, the Digicel Foundation in collaboration with stakeholders from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service embarked on a series of capacity-building exercises which emphasized planning for safety amongst our special needs communities.

Where will you, your family, your friends or personal care attendants be when an emergency or disaster strikes? You, and those you care about, could be anywhere – at home, work, school or in transit. How will you find each other? Will you know your loved ones will be safe? These questions are answered in the video on hurricane preparedness, which features some brave youths with special needs. The public can check the budding film stars in action at:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGpZar2PGI.
