THURSDAY, APRIL 2 2019: PORT OF SPAIN – The Rotary Club of Chaguanas launched its Wheelchair Support Project on Saturday, March 23. Through the project, the club will be able to offer wheelchairs and assistance for 150 families throughout the community.
Ravindra C. Raghunandan brought remarks on behalf of the Rotary Club and thanked the Digicel Foundation for working with them to improve mobility, quality of life and accessibility to wheelchair users. “Assistive devices such as wheelchairs greatly enhance personal mobility and help persons with disabilities to become productive members of their communities,” stated Raghunandan.
The Rotary Club of Chaguanas submitted its application to Digicel Foundation last year and was selected to receive funding under the Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities (EPIC) Programme. The Foundation presented a US$5,000 cheque to the club to help cover the purchase of wheelchairs and other assistive devices
The EPIC Programme is a new community initiative that focuses on supporting small scale community-based projects that seek to enhance indoor and outdoor spaces and develop communities.
The Foundation, which regularly supports developmental programmes that build stronger communities, is always open to partnerships with groups that seek to advance the lives of persons with special needs. Application for funding can be made online through the Digicel Foundation website.
