FRIDAY FEBRUARY 8 2018: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO –The Rio Claro Learning & Development for Special Children has been the beneficiary of many of the Digicel Foundation’s programmes which are specifically designed to assist special needs schools throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
The relationship began in 2017, when the Foundation’s Centres of Excellence, a transformative initiative that physically addresses the aesthetics of special needs schools, was launched at the Centre. This initiative can vary between carrying out minor to major upgrades and in some instances produce a full revamping of a special education institution. The Rio Claro Learning & Development for Special Children was identified as a candidate and received a total remodel.
The school also benefitted under the Foundation’s Preparing You! programme. This programme is designed to prepare special needs schools with the tools and capacity to prepare for disaster preparedness, emergency planning and evacuation capabilities.
After a Vulnerability and Risk Assessment was conducted by the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, it was determined that the school needed fire and safety equipment. The supply and installation of the equipment was provided under this programme in December 2018.
The Foundation continues to take care of special needs schools and will continue to strive forward in excellence to meet the needs of these children.
