D’ DIAL FITNESS CLUB ADVOCATES FOR INCLUSION AT LONG CIRCULAR MALL GYM

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2018:  PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Newly refurbished facilities and equipment have been made available to meet and accommodate the training requirements of persons with special needs at D’ Dial Fitness Club, Long Circular Mall.

The gym refurbishment and purchase of equipment was as a result of the partnership between the Digicel Foundation Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities (EPIC) Programme and Limitless Fitness owned by Gerard and Nirala Alfonso. The couple has been working towardsassistingpersons with special needsthrough theirFoundation, ‘Peyton’s Light’.

The Alfonso’s, who are advocates promoting the inclusion and provision of adequate assistance for persons with special needs, were presented with the grant in the sum of US$5,000 earlier this year. The funds were utilised to refurbish areas of the D’ Dial Fitness Club with ramp access for wheelchairs as well as to procure specialty equipment to meet the training needs of persons with special needs.

Members of the Special Olympics of Trinidad and Tobago (SOTT) Power Lifting Team have especially benefitted from thespecialty equipment, as they train for the upcoming World Games to be held in Abu Dabi next year.

The team’s coach, Richard Johnson, noted, “These new facilities have been crucial in the team’s preparation for World Games and have made it possible for some of his athletes to effortlessly lift an impressive 325 lbs.” These new resources have further aided in the success of four members of the SOTT Power Lifting Team who will compete in theupcoming World Games.

Limitless Fitness was thrilled to have the opportunity, through the Digicel Foundation’s EPIC grant, to provide these services and equipment for the SOTT Power Lifting Team, as well as other persons with special needs, and look forward to implementing further support mechanisms for persons with special needs in the future.

The Alfonso’s were especially grateful as well to the new owners of the D’ Dial Fitness Club for the support they provided in the continuity of this initiative.
