FRIDAY NOVEMBER 9 2018:  PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Children in the Guapo community now have a new Research and Learning Resource Centre, which will provide after school programmes and a safe space to study and nurture learning.

This was as a result of the partnership between the Digicel Foundation Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities (EPIC) Programme and the Guapo Police Youth Club.

The Club was presented with a cheque in the sum of US$5,000 in July this year, which was used to develop the Research and Learning Centre located at the Guapo Community Centre.

Officer Kurt Bertrand of the Guapo Police Youth Club was extremely pleased and thanked the Digicel Foundation for their assistance in developing the space. He also stated that he looked forward to realising the benefits that the Centre would bring to the Guapo Community and its children.

The funds provided were used to outfit the Centre with desktop computers, chairs and multimedia. The new Centre will be opened Mondays through to Saturdays providing an area for the children to further their studies. Plans are also on the way to assist those preparing to sit their SEA and CXC examinations.

The Foundation’s EPIC initiative encourages community groups throughout the country to implement projects that would enhance and encourage capacity-building within their respective communities. The goal of the Programme is to adopt a bottom-up approach to community development and addressing community needs.
