We are committed to providing access to basic health services in rural and remote communities. We do this through the provision of Mobile Health Clinics (MHCs) and also more recently, our Rural Health Aid Posts (RHAPs). To date, Digicel PNG Foundation has funded 35 Mobile Health Clinics (MHC) and 9 Rural Health Aid Posts (RHAP) which have been delivered to various church and government run health facilities. The Mobile Health Clinics have had a impact on improving access to health services for remote villages. Through the health outreach programs, health services are brought right to the doorstep of people who would otherwise have to walk miles and days to the nearest aid post or health center for treatment. The MHCs provide free immunization, HIV/AIDS testing, treatment and counselling, TB and malaria treatment and prenatal and postnatal care to people in their villages.
Recognizing the plight of those in PNG’s isolated river communities Digicel PNG Foundation contributed to the purchase of a float plane for the Samaritan Aviation, a non-profit Christian organization that has been serving the people of East Sepik Province through emergency evacuation flights, delivery of medical supplies, and continued community outreach and health programs in East Sepik.
