Koita Elementary School of Papa Village in the Central Province is the proud recipient of a new double classroom. The classroom was officially opened today during the launch ceremony hosted by the Papa Elementary School Board and community. “At Digicel PNG Foundation we believe that education is the single biggest opportunity we can give our children. The dreams and aspirations of our young children to become doctors, lawyers and engineers start in a classroom. These dreams can come to fruition if our children and teachers are given the conducive learning environment to do so and that is what we are providing with this new double classroom,” said Beatrice Mahuru, CEO of Digicel PNG Foundation. The launch was also attended by the Honourable Kila Haoda, Governor of Central Province. Governor Haoda is a valued partner of Digicel PNG Foundation having provided counter-part funding for education and health projects for Goilala District in Central Province. “I’m pleased to attend this launch and I am thankful to Digicel PNG Foundation for providing education services to the people of Central Province. My appeal and challenge to parents of Central Province is to ensure your children attend school every day so that they can grow and contribute to the development of our nation,” Governor Haoda said. Papa Elementary School was established in 1998 and currently has over 170 students. The school is well managed and the board and teachers are committed to advancing its people and community by providing education opportunities to children in Papa, Metago, Lea Lea and surrounding villages. Valued at K140,000 the project consists of a steel frame double classroom structure with an office space in between, 40 desks, 5000 litre water tank, 2 bucket showers, 2 ventilation improved piping pit toilets and solar lighting.
