New library for Maopa Elementary School

Maopa Elementary School in the Abau District of Central Province is the proud recipient of the first library reward project from the Digicel PNG Foundation. The Maopa Elementary School library project was launched on the 9th December in the presence of a supportive Maopa Community. During the opening of the library, CEO of Digicel PNG Foundation, Beatrice Mahuru, encouraged the Maopa Community to continue to look after their infrastructure. “We are pleased that you as a community have taken ownership of your infrastructure and looked after it and therefore we have come back to reward you. We encourage you to continue to look after your school and make use of your new library. Libraries provide the information and resources our students need to assist them with their school work and reach their full potential to achieve their dreams,” Mahuru said. Libraries are rewarded to schools and communities who have shown exceptional community ownership and good governance. A library reward for an elementary school consists of the following items: 1 library building, 4 granspan book cabinets, 24 chairs, 4 tables and 1 desktop computer with monitor and books. The total value of the investment is K 95,000. Digicel PNG Foundation was deeply humbled by the show of appreciation from the community who gifted us with a live pig.
