Digicel PNG Foundation is proud to announce Hon. Powes Parkop, Governor of National Capital District, as Patron for its Men of Honour Awards for 2014. “We are delighted that Governor Parkop accepted our invitation to be Patron for the Men of Honour Awards. The Governor has been instrumental in fighting social injustice in Papua New Guinea and we are honoured to use his experience to create a national space to overcome violence and recognise positive male role models in our country,” said Beatrice Mahuru, Chief Executive Officer of Digicel PNG Foundation. Governor Powes Parkop is an avid supporter of Digicel PNG Foundation and has partnered with the Foundation on a number of projects and programs, some of which include; financially supporting the Community Based Rehabilitation Program, Early Childhood Learning and Development Programs and linking other partners to the Foundation which has led to the successful commencement of the Foundation’s first urban school project at Sevese Morea Primary School. Governor Powes Parkop said, "without men in the anti-violence conversation, the equation is incomplete. We need to include and empower our men to rise up and acknowledge the ones who are doing great things in the community. I am deeply honoured to be Patron of these awards and I commend Digicel PNG Foundation for this important campaign." Digicel PNG Foundation and Governor Powes Parkop are looking forward to working together to recognize ordinary men who are doing extraordinary things in their communities to improve the lives of Papua New Guineans across the country.
