21st August, 2014 – Port Moresby: Digicel PNG Foundation’s development efforts in the education sector continue to garner support. The Digicel PNG Foundation received K200,000 counterpart funding from the Member for Rai Coast, Honourable James Gau, during a cheque presentation ceremony today. The counterpart funding will go towards the construction of double classroom projects for Saidor Elementary and Saidor Primary Schools in the Rai Coast District of Madang Province. Mr Gau said, “I’m very pleased to support this partnership with Digicel PNG Foundation, utilising the Foundation’s area of expertise to address some of the development challenges faced in Rai Coast district, especially those within the education sector. The surrounding communities are supportive and looking forward to seeing the start and completion of this project.” Digicel PNG Foundation CEO, Beatrice Mahuru, expressed gratitude towards the MP and his district administration for their confidence in the Foundation. “We are pleased to progress the public-private partnership agenda of the government and are therefore grateful for the Member’s support. Partnerships are core to progress in any country as the Government’s support means we can achieve our development goals together,” Mahuru said. The goal at Digicel PNG Foundation is to make sustainable education and health project investments in rural remote communities where 85% of our population reside.
