THE Digicel Foundation and One World Futbol Project have joined forces to support the next generation of footballers by providing 30 nearly indestructible footballs to Boys' Town and school sporting programmes in surrounding communities. The handover, which took place on Sunday, was made by Paulo Ferreira, former Chelsea and Portugal player at the Boys' Town community field. While our ball technology is unique, the real magic is not in the ball, it is what happens when children are allowed to play," said Neill Duffy, chief catalyst, One World Futbol Project. "The ball is a tool that unlocks human potential. Through our collaboration with Digicel, we are fulfilling our mission to bring the power of play to the children that need it most and help transform lives." Designed to outlast any other inflated ball available today, the One World Futbol never needs a pump and never goes flat, even when punctured multiple times, making it ideal for use in harsh environments such as disaster areas, refugee camps, conflict zones, and other disadvantaged communities where a traditional inflated ball doesn't last. Commenting on the initiative, Kerry Jo Lyn, director of projects and strategic initiatives with Digicel Foundation said: "This contribution to primary school sporting programmes is our way of helping to keep these youngsters' dreams alive. They now have a ball that will play as long they will! Partnerships such as these along with Digicel's wider grass-roots initiatives, through the Kickstart Academy and Digicel/JFF Grassroots Football, are just a few ways we aim to support the development of our youths' sporting talents." Grateful for the donation, Delroy Simmonds, operations manager at Boys' Town said: "We are quite happy for them. As you can imagine, often times there is a difficulty in getting sporting equipment -- balls are very expensive, especially the balls that we normally use, as they get damaged and it's another cost to have them repaired or replaced. These balls will go a far way in eliminating costs over a long period. They are perfect for our youngsters!"
