Digicel Foundation approved the purchase of Textbooks and Reading books for the Bedward Gardens Homework centre that caters weekly to over 35 children of the Bedward Gardens Community.

The Homework Centre that is operated by Elaine Williams, a security guard and the mother of three came out of a passion and intense love for education and a fierce determination to make positive things happen for her community. Both her daughter and niece who attend a tertiary level institution informed Elaine that they have been mandated by their school to do volunteer work with any organization. However, Elaine felt that If any community should be helped it should be her community where they were born and bred. With the apparent need to assist the children with literacy Elaine and her family started the Homework Centre on the grounds of the Covenant Basic School located in the community.

On any given Sunday one can expect to see a sea of happy faces and scores of bright eyes sitting and listening in amazement as literatures such as Hanzel and Gretel, Humpty Dumpty and Rapunzel are read to them in earnest. Or it may be a young boy sitting and getting the guidance of Elaine and her team to work out a difficult trigonometry question.

The Digicel Foundation has reached out to William’s call for support and has provided thousands of dollars’ worth of children literature. Elaine Williams is surely a beacon in a garden of lambs.
