The Content Gap Primary School gets a newly refurbished Resource Room

Content Gap Primary officially opened the doors of its newly refurbished Resource Room on Friday 30 January by Executive Director of Digicel Foundation, Major General Robert Neish. The room was refurbished by the Digicel Foundation in response to the damage that was caused by Hurricane Ivan and Dennis.

Located in the foothills of the Blue Mountain, Content Gap Primary has one of the lowest literacy performing rates in the region. “We are happy that our resource room has been restored to its former glory and we will use the equipment as an assistive device to further boost students’ performance in literacy,” explained Principal of the Content Gap Primary School, Lillian Madden.
The newly updated resource centre will enable teachers to use the equipment present inside as a support in the delivery of literacy and numeracy. Executive Director of Digicel Foundation, Major General Robert Neish outlined that the idea of the resource centre is to allow teachers to move away from the traditional ‘chalk and talk’ inside the classroom.
“We want to see the teachers using more creative approach and strategies in the delivery of literacy and numeracy so that they can engage and maintain students’ interest, thereby improving their performances in literacy and numeracy,” commented Neish.
The room comes equipped with desktop computers, interactive whiteboard, laptop, audio-visuals, radio, TV Set, DVD Players and literacy and numeracy software such as Hooked on Phonics, Early Success and Hooked on Maths. This is one of ten such resource centres to be constructed by the Digicel Foundation.
