Digicel Staff to Handover St. Jago South Park

The members of the St. Jago Park community, St. Catherine, now have a green space for their children to enjoy. Staff members of Digicel, the company’s non-profit organization, Digicel Foundation and residents hosted a workday to complete the construction of the St. Jago Community Park on September 22. The project was brought to the Foundation for consideration by Digicel Staff Member, Donovan Betancourt who resides within the community.

The St. Jago Park Work Day included the painting of the newly constructed gazebo as well as installing and painting a six-seater swing. The Park’s construction was financed by Digicel Foundation, which officially handed over the new-look facilities to residents on Saturday. As with many of their work days, the project is designed to combine the efforts of the Digicel team with those of the residents to complete the tasks. This serves to build a relationship between Digicel and the community, and also serves to instill a sense of pride and ownership among the residents. Participants in the handing over ceremony were treated to energetic performances from Digicel Rising Stars 4th place winner, Lenya Wilks and 3rd place winner, Inga Stewart.

General Robert Neish, Executive Director for Digicel Foundation, is proud of the organization’s contributions to society. According to General Neish, the St. Jago Park project is another instance of their commitment to community development. He added, “This is more than just a park. It represents a space where children can be entertained and also nurtured. And when we provide spaces that help to protect the innocence and interest of our youths, we are helping to create a stabler, healthier Jamaica.”
