Project Summary: St. Monica's Home for the Elderly and Abandoned
The 31 residents of St. Monica’s Home in Spanish Town, St. Catherine represent some of our society’s most neglected groups: the abandoned elderly, persons suffering from Hansen’s disease and those living with HIV/AIDS. Founded by Monsignor Richard Albert in 1982, the Home was in need of renovation and basic maintenance work.
In November 2006, the Digicel Foundation donated $250,000 to the project, which allowed for the painting of the property, the repair of its roof, ceilings, bathrooms and washrooms as well as the servicing of the Home’s washing machine. Other general maintenance upgrades were also done at the Home.
The project has assisted in allowing the staff at St. Monica’s, to continue their focus on providing outstanding care for these individuals.
