SOUTH EAST POS SECONDARY GETS DIGITALLY PREPARED

THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 2020: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Being technologically literate is now considered an essential skill for educators and more importantly students. However, preparing the youth to responsibly navigate this digital world requires training, guidance and exposure. To further this cause, the Digicel Foundation launched year three of its ‘Digital Citizenship Programme’ in Trinidad on March 4, at City Hall and in Tobago on March 11, at the Tobago Library Services.

The programme builds capacity and encourages schools to set up a CISCO Network Academy where they can access certified IT courses.  Once the teachers are trained, the Digicel Foundation then outfits the IT labs at participating schools.

One of the newest participating schools in the programmes, South East Port of Spain Secondary School, recently received 10 desktop computers and two year’s free Digicel Home and Entertainment high speed fibre broadband. Now the students have access to continue their self-paced and instructor-led training as they continue to become digitally prepared. The training exposes 20 students to courses such as: cybersecurity, network essentials, entrepreneurship, digital literacy and networking, to name a few.

Both teachers and students were ecstatic to receive the equipment as it now gives them the tools necessary to advance their knowledge in technology, which will serve to equip them for the inevitable digital future.

The Digicel Foundation has invested TT$169,000.00 in its Digital Citizenship Programme to date in 8 schools, which forms part of its global mandate to ‘create a world where no one gets left behind’.
