RYU DAN DOJO CONTINUES TO EMPOWER YOUTH

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19, 2019:  PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – The Ryu Dan Dojo of Enterprise Chaguanas is one step closer to realising its vision of youth empowerment. The Dojo is now equipped with jumbo soft tiles, gymnastics foam mats, computers and a printer which will assist the children who attend the centre, in their development in the Jujitsu art form and other areas in their academic lives.

Previously the children had to practice their throws and takedowns on the bare concrete floors. This is no longer the case since the Digicel Foundation under its Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities (EPIC) programme, partnered with the Ryu Dan Dojo to provide the US$4,600 in funding for the Dojo’s upgrades.

An elated Sensei Marva John-Logan stated, “The children are now able to train on comfortable one-inch gymnastics mats designed to absorb all shocks.” Ms John-Logan went on to highlight the creation of their eight week ‘Read For Life’ Computer Literacy Programme that is designed to enhance the reading and research capacity of children and their parents. Two desktop computers and a printer were also purchased for the Dojo to kick off the initiative. She thanked Digicel Foundation for helping them to realize their goals.

The EPIC programme is an initiative that aims to deliver a series of small-scale community-based projects that have the potential to enhance indoor and outdoor spaces and contribute toward the development of communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
