WEPALA ON-LINE BOOK-DRIVE FUNDED BY DIGICEL FOUNDATION

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6, 2019:  PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – As the new academic year approaches, charities and organisations are busy with book drives, ensuring that tough economic times do not impact disadvantaged students. WEPALA, an education company took its initiative a bit further by sourcing digital copies of books for students. They applied for $10,000 TTD from the Digicel Foundation to help fund the initiative to supply books, and school supplies to students in need.

With its mantra ‘we build amazing technology solutions’ WEPALA used innovative digital technology to build momentum for the 2019 book drive themed ‘I will succeed’ by sourcing we-book copies of textbooks that were not found in stores.

Primary and Secondary school Teachers recommended students they believe would benefit from the online book drive.

WEPALA, together with the Digicel Foundation presented the items to 30 students from the seven schools; Ascension Anglican Primary School, Nelson Street Boys RC School, St. Julien Presbyterian School, Malick Girls RC School, Bishops Anstey (East) High School, St. George’s College and Moruga Secondary School at the Digicel Hospitality suite, in Port of Spain.

Communities across Trinidad and Tobago continue to access the Community Engagement $10,000 TTD grant from Digicel Foundation to complete small-scale projects. The small grant continues to make a big impact in communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
