TUESDAY MAY 21 2019: PORT OF SPAIN – Education and entertainment were the order of the day for Digicel staff who participated in the Digicel Foundation’s Open Day on May 3rd.
Themed ‘Live. Learn. Love.’, staff become more aware of the Foundation’s partners, the work in which they engage and developed a sense of pride in their accomplishments.
After a short opening ceremony, during which the Servol Special School drummers set the tone and Penny Gomez, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, welcomed everyone, staff visited the pop up booths of the partners. On hand for the occasion were: Just Because Foundation, Goodwill Industries, Nature Seekers, Rebirth House, The Brasso Seco Farmers Association, Lady Hochoy Gasparillo, Lady Hochoy Penal and National Centre for Persons with Disabilities.
Some staff members learnedto make recycled glass bracelets at a workshop run by Nature Seekers. Others signed up to learn techniques and share advice from the autism support group, Autism Spirit.
Parents also benefitted from a workshop run by the Caribbean Kids and Family Therapy Organization, which focused on the promotion of fine motor, perceptual, cognitive and developmental skills in children, with various levels of special needs and learning differences.
Additionally, members of the Youth Training Centre got to pay it forward by sharing techniques on farming fish and vegetables using aquaponics, a programme introduced to the facility in 2018 which was funded by the Foundation.
The Open Day ended on a high note with an exciting treasure hunt, which sent staffers searching at Ansa, Chaguanas, Tobago and C3 offices. Winners walked away with hampers and everyone created fond memories.
