WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 14 2018: PORT OF SPAIN – Among the many visions of the Demerara Sports and Youth Club, is to engage members of the Demerara, Wallerfield community in a healthier lifestyle.
In attempting to make this a reality, the Club submitted its application to Digicel Foundation earlier this year, and was selected to receive funding under the Foundation’s Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities (EPIC) Programme.
This vision came one step closer to becoming a reality, when the Club received a cheque in the sum of US$5000 to purchase and install the outdoor exercise equipment for the Demerara Jacob Hill Recreation Ground, Wallerfield.
The official launch of the Demerara Sports and Youth Club – Outdoor Exercise Equipment took place on November 4. Now, residents of that community and its environs can take their fitness level up a notch, by utilizing the newly installed outdoor exercise equipment and reap the many benefits of engaging in exercise.
LaToya Alexander brought remarks on behalf of the group and thanked Digicel Foundation for believing in their dream and having faith in them to implement the project. Similar sentiments were echoed by Marlene Hazel, President of the Demerara Sports and Youth Club and Joy Lewis, Public Relations Officer of the Wallerfield Community Welfare Council.
The Digicel Foundation congratulates the Demerara Sports and Youth Club for their commitment to the development of their community, and the desire to create opportunities for individuals to improve their health and general wellness.
The objective of EPIC Programme is to deliver a series of small community-based projects that can enhance indoor and outdoor spaces and contribute toward the development of communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
