The 6th Isi Learning Teacher Training Program recently concluded on April 17th and saw a total of 61 new teachers from various Community Learning Centres in Central, Gulf and NCD provinces, complete the course. During the teacher training program closing, the teachers showcased their learnings and provided testimonials of how the training program has reinvigorated their passion to teach. The training program comprises of two phases with phase 1 being the professional skills and teaching skills component, and phase 2 being the sounds write phonics course. The training is then followed by 32 weeks of professional practice, during which time the teachers are assessed during field visits. The teachers who come through the Isi Learning Teacher Training Program are teachers who are passionate about teaching in their village or community pre-schools or Community Learning Centres (CLCs). These schools are informal pre-schools set-up by concerned members of socially marginalised communities who want to provide and education opportunity for the little children in their areas. Many of these teachers are volunteers who don’t get paid but do it because they are passionate about teaching and making a difference in a young person’s life.
