Digicel Foundation heads Southside to Super-Treat Downtown Kids

Digicel Foundation heads Southside to “Super-Treat” Downtown Kids In support of City Life Ministries’ 5th Annual Southside Christmas Super-Treat Kingston, Jamaica – 11 December 2009: On Saturday, December 12, Digicel Foundation will be heading Downtown to the Southside Community located on Tower Street, to enjoy a day of fun and excitement with the children of Downtown Kingston. Organized by City Life Ministries, Southside Christmas Super-Treat is in its 5th year. “Digicel Foundation is demonstrating the true philosophy of corporate social responsibility and community integration,” expressed a dynamic Pastor Carrington Morgan, Executive Director of City Life Ministries.“City Life Ministries has always done projects that promote empowerment, fun and excitement, we work in communities that are surrounded by dire needs and challenges, and therefore, we purposely create reasons to celebrate life together”, he added.  “The annual Christmas treat is one of these celebratory events.” The day’s activities include strategically placed ‘fun stations’ such as Merry-Go-Round, Ferris Wheel, Bounce A-bout, Face Painting and Donkey Cart Rides as well as other street games such as the Red Bull (Bowling) Alley and the Canco Basketball Throw,” Pastor Morgan highlighted. This year, everything is bigger and better.  The label ‘Super-Treat’ was added this year because of the significant expansion in the amount of activities and invited guests.  “Our main target groups are the children of Southside and the surrounding communities of Downtown Kingston (Tivoli, Matthew’s Lane),” he further elaborated.  “We are also hosting a few other communities that City Life Ministries is active in such as Majesty Gardens and Water House.” Southside is the birthplace of City Life Ministries.  Pastor Morgan further explained: “Even though we do projects in other communities, this area of Central Kingston remains dear to our hearts.  We have bonded with the people over the years and they are now at the place where they are willing and able to host other communities and share the joy that they have experienced.” When asked of why not take the kids out to a special venue for an event of this nature, Pastor Morgan replied that, “There is a powerful, yet natural ‘vibe’ that is generated when having the treat within the community, amongst the people, instead of renting a large open space somewhere else.”  There are over 20 sponsors at this year’s Super-Treat.  Some have given cash and some have donated product.  A few of the key sponsors include Digicel Foundation, NCB Foundation, Red Bull, Lasco, Canco, JETS Ltd., Digipoint, Grace Kennedy Foundation, Jamaica Broilers, Pepsi and Tastees.
