New Auditorium for Hatfield Primary School

Hatfield Primary and Junior High school in Manchester will officially open its new auditorium and multipurpose complex on Thursday 20 November.

The complex, which is expected to benefit more than 1100 students and citizens in the community of Hatfield, was constructed and equipped by the Digicel Foundation.

Administrator for Digicel Foundation, Eleen Rankine, explained that the auditorium was under construction before the Digicel Foundation came on board, but the school did not have enough funds to complete it. The Ministry of Education had further donated

$ 4.5M to the construction of the resource room, but that fell short of the $9.5M budget needed to complete the auditorium..

Hatfield Primary and Junior High school will greatly benefit from this 4500 square feet complex, since it will be used for a number of purposes such as devotions, graduations, award ceremonies, concerts and other social gatherings. In addition, the school will also use the complex as additional classroom facilities whenever the school is in session and the surrounding community will also be able to use the complex as a multipurpose facility for community events such weddings, funerals and anniversary celebrations which will generate additional income for the school.

“The auditorium is the only facility of its kind in this community and we are truly happy that the Foundation has assisted us. We will try to make it as beneficial to every one as is possible”, noted Principal of Hatfield Primary, Mrs. Sandra Brown. Some of the materials that were installed in the auditorium were new tiles, windows, panel doors, partitions that will enable the room to function as classrooms, public address systems and chairs for students and staff.
