Digicel Foundation Assists St. Maarten Foster Home

More help is on the way for the I Can Foundation foster home in Dutch Quarter, St. Maarten in the form of a generous USD$10,000 donation from The Digicel Foundation. Slated to be presented to the Rotary Club of Kingston at their weekly meeting on Thursday, August 30 at the Pegasus Hotel, the cheque will contribute to the Club’s outreach to the now displaced residents of the foster home.

The home, which housed over 20 children between the ages of 0-13 years, caught fire on August 1 of this year. The fire spread rapidly to consume the five-bedroom structure, gutting it completely. Although the children and caregivers all escaped unharmed, the destruction of the property has left them homeless, temporarily relocated to the I Can crisis centre.

Major General Robert Neish, Executive Director of The Digicel Foundation, and member of the Rotary Club of Kingston, sprang into immediate action upon learning of the crisis, stimulating both organizations into action “for this very deserving cause.” Both groups have responded with resounding generosity, resulting in The Digicel Foundation’s presentation of the sizeable donation to the Rotary Club’s ongoing outreach efforts.

Speaking of behalf of Digicel Foundation, Vice Chairperson Stacey Mitchell-Fraser again emphasized the Foundation’s solid commitment to lending assistance and improving the quality of life across the Caribbean community, stating, “Where Digicel grows, those communities must grow also.”
