The Digicel Foundation Provides Educators with a Pedagogical and Administrative Tool

Port-au-Prince, Haiti - April 8, 2021: On Thursday April 8, 2021, at the premises of the Ministry of Education’s General Inspectorate, the Digicel Foundation officially presented a guide for its Enrichment Program for Leadership and Educational Development.

The guide summarizes the Digicel Foundation’s training activities carried out within its Professional Development Program. Its objective is to provide educators with the included documents among others to question their practices and subsequently improve their skills. The guide should also facilitate knowledge sharing with schools and partners and serve as a tool to strengthen teaching in the classroom. Given that not all aspiring organizations working in education can benefit from training due to travel, time and human resource limitations, the guide provides an alternate solution.

According to Pierre Jonas Romain, a trainer at the Digicel Foundation, “the guide is subdivided into three main parts. The first two parts focus on classroom instruction and include sample lesson plans produced by teachers and trainers for the following subjects: mathematics, social and experimental sciences and language arts. The third part highlights some lesson plans in conflict management, school and teacher councils, school administration, and pedagogical supervision.''

In addition, the guide benefits from the recognition of the Ministry of Education, which supported the team throughout the process.  Mr. Meniol Jeune, Director General of the said Ministry insists that `` Education is an area of general interest and that the institution remains open to organizations such as the Digicel Foundation which believes that change must involve educating children and supporting persons working in the field of education.''

In short, the Digicel Foundation is constantly involved in Haiti’s education sector, either through its School Construction Program, or its Professional Development Program which, in turn, promotes excellence in education personnel. Thus, from 2012 and thanks to some 20 UQAM certified trainers, the Foundation began a series of trainings for the teachers and directors working at the schools it built. Over the years, 1,721 teachers and directors benefited from these modules. All of these trainings, assistance in the field as well as this guide, testify to the Digicel Foundation’s commitment to contributing to quality education in the country.
