The Digicel Foundation finances a water supply project through its "Konbit Pou Chanjman" campaign

March 14, 2019, Port-au-Prince, Haiti - The Digicel Foundation this Thursday March 14 financed a water supply project in Cornillon Grand Bois in the Ouest department. This project was submitted to the Foundation by the Union des Jeunes Progressistes pour l'Avancementde Grand Bois Cornillon (UJPAGC) [Union of Progressive Youth for the Advancement of Grand-Bois Cornillon] organization as part of the second edition of the Konbit Pou Chanjman (Come Together For Change) campaign, launched in May 2018.

This project immediately captured the attention of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, who selected it for the second phase of its campaign, which consists of a visit to the project. The visit took place in December 2018 and helped the Foundation understand the water shortage at this location and the challenges the population faced on a daily basis. The organization then advanced to the final phase and was invited to present its project to the Konbit Pou Chanjman jury last February.

After this presentation, the project was advanced as one of the winning projects and should officially receive its subsidy during the finale which will take place next April. Considering the urgency that afflicts Cornillon and that was covered in the media last February, the Foundation got together with the organization (UJPAGC) on March 12 to finance the project earlier than the anticipated date and to start work immediately.

This morning, a meeting took place between the Digicel Foundation, DINEPA, and the Mayor's Office of Cornillon to discuss the project and to sign the contract. Work will begin soon and will be supervised jointly by the three entities.

Regarding the Konbit Pou Chanjman [Come Together for Change]:

Konbit Pou Chanjman is an initiative of the Digicel Foundation to  finance community development projects. The second edition was launched in May 2018 and by last August, more than 450 applications from non-profit organizations throughout the country had been submitted. Of those, 72 advanced to the second phase and members of the Foundation and its Board visited them to evaluate their scope. This process, which involves a detailed analysis of these projects, resulted in the January 17, 2019, announcement of the selection of 25 projects for the final phase.

The selected organizations have been invited to return to Port-au-Prince from February 26 until March 2 to visit projects already financed by the Foundation, to participate in training in communication, leadership, management, and governance of non-profit organizations and to present their projects to a jury specially established for this occasion.

After this visit, these organizations were invited to Port-au-Prince once again for the grand finale, which will take place next April when the 15 winning projects will each receive a 700,000-gourde grant.
