School history:
La Bruyere Mixed National School is a public institution that exists since 1963. In the beginning the school was situated under a tree and after that under a thatched roof construction. Despite its affiliation with the Ministry of Education, they were unable to provide furniture to the school and could not give access to a large number of destitute children.
With the involvement of the DIGICEL Foundation the school was reconstruction and has regained confidence and proudly took possession of this beautiful school by registering 300 children.
About the School:
La Bruyere is a National School working with the authorization of the Minister of Education. There are 301 students regularly attending the school, 101 boys and 200 girls. There are 6 teachers working in school. The school comprises of 6 grades and teaces maths, French and Creole, the Social Science and experimental science.
The Board is composed of 3 people; the school director, a teacher and a parent. They work with the parents committee on the school decision making. The parents' committee is composed of 9 parents. This committee helps to protect the school environment. It participates in decisions that could help the school and it provides support to the Director.
Partners of the School
In 2007 the DIGICEL Foundation has reconstructed and furnished the school. In 2008, the Foundation financially supported the payment and training of teachers.
The school is also supported by World Vision who work with the community of La Bruyere.
The school is part of a food program School Canteen. This program is supported by the PNCs.
Students are vaccinated by the MSPP.
