THURSDAY, JANUARY 10 2019: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO –The spirit of giving and spreading joy were uppermost in the minds of the Digicel Foundation this Christmas season.
Through the Foundation’s Community Engagement Programme they partnered with Martin’s Taxi Service and friend Wendy Lo Wing to bring Christmas cheer to the children of Tamana for another year. The programme donated a contribution of TT$9,300 to assist in making the Martin’s Taxi Service annual Children’s Christmas Party a huge success.
The funds went towards the of purchase toys, tents and a bouncy castle, much to the delight of some 200 children of the Guaico Tamana area who attended the event on December 15.
A gracious Martin Gonsalves who was elated with the partnership stated, “Thanks to the Digicel Foundation and their invaluable partnership, the children of Tamana all walked away smiling.”
The Christmas spirit continued at the Living Water Community Seniors’ Home in Siparia. Under the programme, the Home received TT$15,000 to refurbish their kitchen area, as well as to purchase new appliances inclusive of a refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven.
Speaking on the partnership with the Foundation, Judy Rampersad Project Manager at the Living Water Community revealed, “I was driving to the home one morning, wondering how our kitchen was going to be completed, and at that very moment I heard the call for applications. I quickly pulled to the side of the road and began to write down all the requirements.” Rampersad thanked the Digicel Foundation for answering their call, just at the right time.
In addition to the donation, a team of Digicel Foundation volunteers spent quality time with the residents at the Home. Armed with the Christmas must-haves sweetbread and sorrel, the team enjoyed the company of the folks at the Home, playing card games and dominoes, with some of the ladies at the Home even getting their nails painted.
