Special Needs Portfolio | Digicel Jamaica Foundation

Impacting over 500,000 Jamaicans in education, special needs and social enterprise.

Special Needs

We are committed to enhancing the welfare of children with special needs across the island. The continued support given to the Special Olympics team in countries served by Digicel worldwide since 2004 is evidence of not only the Foundation’s commitment, but that of our Patron, Denis O’Brien.

Through our Centre of Excellence Programme there has been an increase in the capacity of special needs schools, intervention tools and training opportunities for teachers. Additionally, our Ramps in Schools Initiative has seen the construction of wheelchair ramps in 11 schools across the island. Twenty-one Mobile Therapy Backpacks have also been made available for social workers to deliver developmental care to children in rural communities. We continue to forge ahead to impact some of our nation’s most vulnerable, using our annual 5K Walk/Run event to raise awareness and well needed funds for our special needs partners.
